The Subject Tab - Title Manager Follow
The Subject tab is where you can fully categorise your title, adding it to standard industry categories or your own categorisations.
Thema Codes: Thema is the primary code list used by Stison. Adding individual Thema codes will then provide you with the opportunity to map these to their respective Bic and Bisac codes. You can also add Bic and Bisac separately.
Main – Tick this circle to establish which category is the most relevant.
Description – Click into this field and choose the relevant code from the list. Please note that the system is set up to first show you the codes you are using most often. If you have just started using the system, then these codes will not appear yet. The screen will look like this:
In order to bring all of the codes up onto your screen, click on the Show All button, which we've marked above in a red circle. The screen should then look like this:
It is encouraged to add as many relevant Thema Codes as possible. Also, Nielsen will reject the title if you submit it level 1 or 2 codes. WM (Gardening), for instance, is not specific enough, but WMPF (Gardening: Fruit and Vegetable) is acceptable.
To add more categories, click on add another Thema code and fill in the description.
BIC Codes: These are UK specific categories, once you have mapped through from Thema it is possible to add additional codes by selecting the Box and typing in the Name of the code or the code itself and the system will provide a drop down for you to select from. Please note that the master category should be the first subject (this will appear Dark Blue in the list as opposed to the others that are light blue). You can drag and drop subjects to order them.
To Delete a Bic code select the X on the right hand side of the relevant code.
BISAC Codes: These are categories specific to North America, once you have mapped through from Thema it is possible to add additional codes by selecting the Box and typing in the Name of the code or the code itself and the system will provide a drop down for you to select from. Please note that the master category should be the first subject (this will appear Dark Blue in the list as opposed to the others that are light blue). You can drag and drop subjects to order them.
To Delete a Bisac code select the X on the right hand side of the relevant code.
CBMC: This is the BIC Children's Marketing category and is a required field if the audience/readership code = 02 or 03
Dewey Decimal System: This is a proprietary library classification system first published in the United States by Melvil Dewey in 1876. It has been revised and expanded through 23 major editions, the latest issued in 2011, and has grown from a four-page pamphlet in 1876. It is also available in an abridged version suitable for smaller libraries. It is currently maintained by the Online Computer Library Center.
OCLC Number: OCLC assigns a unique control number (referred to as an "OCN" for "OCLC Control Number") to each new bibliographic record in WorldCat. Numbers are assigned serially.
LC Class: This is the Library of Congress Classification Number that appears in the copyright page of every published book. Manually type in the number.
Following on from these sections there are multiple other classifications, for example distributor specific Classifications. You can select a classification from the drop down list.
Classifications are pre-populated in the database.
Contact Stison to add more classification types.
Classification: Select the Classification type you wish to add.
Subject: Choose the subject from the pre-installed database.
Main – Tick this circle to establish which category is the most relevant.
Description – Click into this field and choose the relevant code from the list.
To add more categories, click on add another subject and fill in the description.
To add another Classification click add another classification and fill in the relevant details.
Subjects and Themes: These are the proprietary subjects and themes specific to your books, and are used to classify and group your titles on your website.
Click on the drop-down menus and choose the relevant items.
To allocate more subjects and themes to a title, click on Add another subject or Add another theme and choose an item from the drop-down menu.
To delete any themes or subjects, click on the bin icon.
To add more subjects and themes to the drop-down lists, you will need to do so through
Subjects and Themes Admin.
Key Words: Choose a set of key words that best describe your book. Key words are useful as they will help further classify titles. When visitors use the search option to find specific content, it's important to ensure that the most relevant titles to their search come up accordingly. Try to think about all possible search words from the perspective of a visitor.
To add more than one key word, click on Add another key word.
To delete any key words, click on the X to the right of the keyword.
The information added in this tab only needs to be added once. All subsequent editions of the book will automatically be updated to reflect the categorisation established for the first edition.
Click Update when you are finished.
