Setting up Themes Follow
The Stison system has been set up to include themes as a way of categorising titles. Not all publishers will use this feature, however if you do, it will enable more detailed categorisation searches. Clicking on Themes from the main Categorisation menu will take you to the following:
You can search your theme list by typing your theme name or theme code into the search box.
To remove a theme, just tick a box in front of the subject you want to remove and click on the Remove Selected button.
To create a new theme click on Create New:
In the first field, choose from the drop-down menu to determine if the Theme is a Master theme or it has a Parent theme. For more information on the Parent --> Child structure, see here.
Enter the theme Code/number and Theme Name.
Type in the Theme Description if necessary.
When you are finished, click on the Create button and your theme will be visible in the list on the main Theme screen.
To edit a theme, click on the relevant item from the list and a new screen will appear with 3 tabs:
The first tab: General is already explained in the text above. Here you can edit the details you have already entered about the theme. If you do this, please note that all books currently tagged with that theme on the system already will be updated automatically. You do NOT need to then go back and update individual titles.
When you are finished, click on the Update button and this will take you to the next tab Books:
Here you can add books related to your theme. Click on the empty Book Name field and you will be taken to the main book list where you can choose accordingly.
To add another book, click on Add another book; you can add as many books as needed.
When you are finished, click on the Update button and this will take you to the next tab SEO:
The SEO tab may not be visible depending on your permissions & site requirements.
Here you can fill in the empty fields with the URL info. Tick the circle in front of the Master URL.
The purpose of the URL is to map the theme name to an SEO friendly URL for your website - whether the website is provided by Stison or an external third party.
Type in the URL address and choose the Language from the drop-down menu. Tick the Publish box for the URL to be activated.
You can add more URLs by clicking on Add SEO URL.
To delete a URL, click on the bin symbol in front of the URL you wish to remove.
When you are finished, click on the Update button.
A note on the Parent --> Child Structure
In lots of places in Stison, we refer to a 'parent' or 'child'. For example, in relation to Tags, Themes, Subjects or Categories.
This structure allows you to add layers, or complexity, to your categorisation. For example, you may have a parent Subject, that then has sub-subjects, ie 'Child subjects'.
Take this example. You might have a Parent subject of 'Contemporary Fiction'. Within that broad subject, you may want to then specify various kinds of contemporary fiction, such as Crime, Fantasy, Romance and Thrillers. In this case, these later, more specific, kinds would be your child subjects.
In Stison, this would be set up as follows:
When you are selecting which subject to apply to a title in Title Manager, you will see the parent and child subjects displayed as such, with the child subjects indented:
