Setting Up Categories Follow
Categories enable you to set up grouping by subjects, BIC codes or BISAC codes. It is not currently possible to have categorisation across multiple types. The categorisation can then be used on the web, for instance, to provide a landing page with description & group all titles together that have one of the selected [BIC|BISAC|Subject] codes.
Choosing Categories from the main Categorisation menu a new screen will show up:
Here you can see the list of all your Categories and you can create new. To delete a category just tick on the box in front of the category you wish to remove and then click on the Remove Selected button.
To create new click on Create New and a new screen will show up:
In the first field, choose from the drop-down menu if your Category is a Master category or it has a Parent category. For more information on the Parent --> Child structure, see here.
Enter the Category Name.
If you would like to use our Restrictions feature, please contact helpdesk@stison.com.
Type in the Category Description in the description box where you can organise text in different ways and in different formats, add links and images.
When you are finished, click on the Create button and your new category will be visible in the list on the main Category screen.
To edit a category, click on a category from the list and a new screen will show up with 5 tabs.
The first one: General, is already explained in the text above. Here you can edit details you have already entered by simply deleting and re-typing the information you want to be displayed. If you do this, please note that all books currently tagged with that category on the system already will be updated automatically. You do NOT need to then go back and update individual titles.
When you are finished editing, click the Update button and this will take you to the tab BIC Codes:
Here you can enter BIC Codes/Description: clicking on the blank field you will be taken to your BIC Codes list from which you can choose a relevant code.
To add another just click Add another BIC code. To delete just click the bin symbol in front of the BIC code you wish to delete.
Keep in mind that ideally we expect that you use one of either BIC/BISAC/Subject for your categorisation.
When finished click on the Update button.
Navigate to the next tab: BISAC Codes.
Here you can enter BISAC Codes/Descriptions. Clicking on the blank field you will be taken to your BISAC codes list from which you can choose a relevant code.
To add another, just click Add another BISAC code. To delete just click the bin symbol in front of the BISAC code you wish to delete.
When finished click on the Update button.
Navigate to the Subjects tab:
Similarly as above enter Subject Codes/Name. Clicking on the blank field you will be taken to the list of your Subjects you have already created, choose accordingly.
To add another just click on Add another subject code. To delete a subject just click on the bin symbol in front of the subject you wish to delete.
When finished click on Update button.
A note on the Parent --> Child Structure
In lots of places in Stison, we refer to a 'parent' or 'child'. For example, in relation to Tags, Themes, Subjects or Categories.
This structure allows you to add layers, or complexity, to your categorisation. For example, you may have a parent Subject, that then has sub-subjects, ie 'Child subjects'.
Take this example. You might have a Parent subject of 'Contemporary Fiction'. Within that broad subject, you may want to then specify various kinds of contemporary fiction, such as Crime, Fantasy, Romance and Thrillers. In this case, these later, more specific, kinds would be your child subjects.
In Stison, this would be set up as follows:
When you are selecting which subject to apply to a title in Title Manager, you will see the parent and child subjects displayed as such, with the child subjects indented:
