The Rights Tab is the area where you can define what Rights you as a publisher have over the book. There are many different aspects to the rights section. It is important that each area is clearly understood. There are also a number of sub tabs within the Rights section details can be found on here.
Each area of the Rights Tab is described below.
Then move on to the Rights tab where you will specify where in the world you can sell your book. This is called the 'sales rights' and does not refer to the editions you sell to other publishers who translate and publish them in different languages.
For UK publishers, for instance, this refers to the English language edition. You will need to fill in this information separately for each edition (HB or PB).
*Rights Type: Choose the appropriate item from the drop-down menu. The item most often used for books originated by you as the publisher will be 1 – For sale with exclusive rights in the specified country/ies. Please note that in the example further down the page, we have also used 6 - Not for sale in the specified countries (because the publisher does not hold rights in these territories or countries) as there are some limitations with the rights of the example we have used. This will demonstrate the flexibility of this part of the system.
Territory: Use the drop-down menu; this will most likely be WORLD – World. Leave this blank if you intend to specify the countries below.
Use either the country OR the territory for each row (NOT BOTH); use multiple rows for multiple countries. This will make more sense a bit further down this article.
Adding new territories: You may want to add new territories to your system to avoid having to list out a set of countries. If you have only European rights for a title, for instance, it will be much easier to simply grab Europe from the drop down menu rather than having to tick every country within Europe individually. You can establish new territories that will then appear in your drop-down menu through Territory Admin Section.
Country: Choose the appropriate item from the drop-down menu; use multiple rows for multiple countries where necessary. Leave this blank if you have specified the Territory.
Please note that you have to also specify positive rights (ie where you can sell the title) if you are going to be making it specific which countries or territories you DON'T have the rights for. If your title is NOT available in the USA, Japan and Australia, for instance, you would need to add a separate line stating that the rights are also for sale in Rest of World (ROW). Click Update when you are finished. Then move on to the Other tab where you will add further rich content about your book:
