The GPSR: Including a Product Safety Contact

The General Product Safety Regulation takes effect from the 13th December 2024, and requires all publishers to include a Product Safety Contact in their metadata.

Whilst it is possible to share the necessary detail in Onix 3.1, a lot of data recipients and aggregators do not yet use the version of Onix 3.1 that is able to communicate this information. A 'workaround' has therefore been created, allowing you to provide this information via a link in your Onix.

To make this process as simple and easy to implement as possible, Stison have included a space for you to upload the necessary document in your Organisation's configuration. This document will then be shared via a link in all of your product's Onix.

1. Create the Product Safety Contact document

Firstly, you need to create a document that can be shared, detailing your organisation's product safety contact information. To upload this document to Stison, it will need to be a PDF.

The document must contain the following information for all product safety contacts:

1. Contact Name
2. Contact Email Address
3. Contact Phone Number
4. Contact Address

According to the Onix codelist, this is a 'Document giving full contact detail, including postal addresses,
for product safety contacts at publisher or supplier'.

2. Upload the document in Stison

Navigate to General --> Configuration. Select your publisher. You will be taken to this screen, where you can see a 'Safety File' field:

Select 'Browse', find the relevant document on your machine, and once you have selected the correct file, select 'Update' at the bottom of the screen. The file will then appear as below:

If you need to change the Safety File held in Stison, for whatever reason, simply select 'Browse', select the new file, and Update the screen. The newly selected file will replace the existing one.

3. Sharing this information in Onix

Please note that this document cannot be shared in Onix 2.1. GPSR information can only be included in Onix 3 and later.

This information will automatically be included for all of your products when an Onix 3 or 3.1 feed is generated. It will sit within the Supporting Resource composite:

Please note that uploading this will not qualify as a 'change' to your products metadata. This means that it will not trigger a title to be included in your next Onix feed. If you wish to share this information immediately for all records, please use the 'Clear Last Timestamp' and 'Run now' functions in Onix Destinations.
