Royalties is the main area to configure rules on titles, set up payees and configure which period/configuration a title is in.
When selecting Royalties from the main Sales/Royalties menu you will be taken to the screen with the list of all of your titles:
Here you can search your list using the search box or you can apply filters by clicking on Advanced Filters.
Once you found the title you wish to work on, click on it and you will be taken to the screen where you can create a Royalty Rule for the selected title connected to Sales Type, Contributor and the Product Form. So for each product form of an existing title or work you will can create or share a royalty schedule for each Sales type.
Clicking on a title you will be taken to the screen with 6 tabs and the first tab is Royalties. This is the area to create the royalty rule(s) and set up breaks for your contributors and payees for the selected title:
To create a royalty rule first thing is to either select a contract valid for this contributor and title or create a new contract.
- You can select an exiting contract by clicking on the looking glass symbol, you can also click on the notes/edit symbol and you will be taken to the currently selected contract page to check/edit the details.
- If there is no existing contract that you wish to connect to the title, the system will create a new contract with the title same as the book title when you click create new.
Now click on Create New button and you will be taken to the rules screen:
Select a Contributor from the drop down menu - or select "other" from the drop down menu to select an alternate contributor, select Sales Type, check Escalate All box if correct, select Applied to Forms from the drop down menu, enter Withholding Rate and Withholding Period, check the correct Payment Type box.
Clicking on By Break you will see this on your screen:
Now you can configure your break, check the correct box depending on your Break Type, the first value of Break, is always 0, because it marks the start, from where you are starting your break, check the correct box for Payment Type, and enter Payment percentage.
Now you have your first part of your brake. If the entered payment rate (in the example above: 5) is not valid for the all of your sales, you will need to more breaks.
Enter the value of your break, in the example on the picture above the break value is 200 Units. That means that from 0 to 200 units, royalty is 5% Net, and from 201 that percentage is 10%.
You can add as many breaks as you wish by clicking Add another break. There is also an option for Complex split which allows you to set breaks within each break. Checking Complex split box new fields will open, where you can set your sub split:
In the complex example above from 0% to 40%, from 0 to 2500 units payment is 12.5% of net sales, above 2500 sold units payment is 15% of net sale, above 40% from 0 to 2500 sold units payment is 7.5% of net sale, above 2500 the payment is 10% of net sale.
When finished click Update button. Now your royalty schedule is connected to the selected contributor, title, product form and sales type and it will be visible on the Royalties tab list:
You may use lump sum for a payment on every sale. For instance a sale may trigger a payment of £100 per sale.
Clicking on Lump Sum the screen layout will change to below:
Enter the correct info and click Update when finished.
To remove a rule check a box in front of the rule you wish to remove and click on Remove Selected.
The next tab is Payee, where you can establish who will get paid and how it is broken down when you have more than one payee. This tab will have as many sub-tabs as titles are connected to the contract (in the example below Demonstration Title 1, Demonstration Title 12, Demo). Note that Contributor is not always a (only) payee:
In the example above Huckleberry Finn and Atticus Finch are spliting the royalties 50-50, but then 50% of both Huckleberry Finn's and Atticus Finch's royalties are payed to other payees. To create a payee click on Create New and a new screen will show up, where you can add a Payee from the list of configured payees and to select a contributor from the drop down menu:
When finished click Create button.
The third tab is Options:
This is the tab where you can influence units sold from different sales types and formats (for example digital to home, UK sales to USA etc)
When finished click on the Update button.
