Rights Manager Overview Follow
Stison's Rights Manager module is designed to act as a repository for all things Rights related - whether that be the rights you are selling or the rights you are buying in.
Key functionality of the module:
- Rights Manager is a comprehensive software package to handle all the functions of a Rights Department.
- The information is entered once only and can be accessed and reported on in a variety of different ways. The database can be searched and reported on by title, purchaser, author, series, ISBN, imprint and many more.
- The system maintains a database holding details of titles, authors, publishers, contracts, interest and submissions, invoices and revenue.
- The information entered in the rights module can link through to the Sales / Royalties module, to allow you to keep track of rights income, and any royalties owed to external parties as a result.
Contracts
In Rights --> Contracts, you can add all of your existing contracts. Once you have done so, this area will exist as a database of all of your Rights Contracts. Please note that Rights Contracts can be bulk uploaded.
You can search your list via the search box or you can filter your search by applying Advanced Filters. The keyword search filters on title, organisation, foreign title & description. The advanced filters available are:
Rights
In Rights --> Rights, you will see all of your titles from Title Manager listed.
By selecting a title, you will be able to quickly gain an overview of the rights held, the contracts associated with the title, the content rights associated, as well as the 'Rights Options' history (more on this below).
For example, for Title 01 below, you can see that we purchased worldwide rights in all languages, and have sold Norwegian, Italian and Spanish language rights.
Rights Options
The Rights Options section is a space to record meetings or presentations made to companies and professionals. It is both a record of which titles were discussed and a follow up list to remind you of tasks to be completed such as: send PDF, send copy, send contract, etc.
You can then filter this information, once entered, by Source, Organisation or Country, as some examples, to help you to report on what potential rights sales you have in progress. For example, you may set Frankfurt Book Fair 2026 as a source, and be able to quickly look at all of the meetings that you had at the book fair, and which titles were discussed within them.
This information then pulls through into a titles record in 'Rights' - showing you who you have discussed selling the rights to a title with, and what the outcome of that was:
Reporting
You can then report on the data that you have entered, such as our 'Expiring Rights' report, 'Contract Advances Report' or 'Options' report.
