Thema is a new classification system for books that aims to eventually replace all national classification schemes. It has already been adopted by a number of countries and currently sits at Version 1.3, which was released in April 2018.
Stison has worked on promoting Thema as its primary classification scheme, whilst maintaining the integrity of both Bic and Bisac, and as a result has made the following changes to their subject classification pages.
Stison will on the upgrade review each title at a time, and if there are no Thema codes attached it, will try to create Thema codes for the titles. This will be done by looking at the BIC codes for the title and mapping to the respective Thema code. If there are no Bic codes on a title, then no Thema codes will be added.
Historically Bic and Bisac were the first categorisations that you would see on the Subject Tab as per the image below:
Thema could have been added as a separate classification further down the screen. Going forward, you will see that the primary classification is now Thema.
Adding Thema codes is simple to do. You can add them in the same fashion you used to use for Bic and Bisac, by clicking on the empty box or selecting the magnifying glass on the right.
This will bring up a separate box that will allow you to search for a code, navigate through all the codes or see your most recently used codes.
You can find more information on the Subject Tab page.
